The vehicle had been heading southbound on I-81 towards Knoxville, Tennessee and came to a stop just after exit 69 in the Blountville area of the Tri-Cities.

The SUV flipped over the guardrail 15 feet before the bridge rail and dragged the flipped RV/camper behind it. The RV/camper hitch was the only thing keeping the SUV from hitting the state highway below.

The SUV did mage to also clip a power line pole, which caused the north- and southbound lanes of I-81 to be closed for some time. It took emergency workers 6 hours to get the northbound lane of I-81 open to traffic.

It took the efforts of the Sullivan County Volunteer Fire Department, Sullivan County EMA & EMS, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Sullivan County Sheriffs Department to get the interstate reopen and keep the rescue and recover efforts safe.
